fake blackberry BlackBerry bold cloned RIM OS left outSo far, RIM’s BlackBerry devices were largely left alone by cloners – they focused on Nokia instead. The device pictured on the left side is the first-ever clone of a RIM device: ChinaGrabber sells it for 165$.

Specs-wise, the device is inferior – it has but a QVGA screen and a VGA camera. It furthermore lacks the RIM OS, which means that it can not be connected to a BlackBerry enterprise server.

I am delighted to see RIM’s devices getting cloned. Chinese cloners tend to focus on devices which generate consumer interest (power users will rarely go for a clone as it tends to have inferior features) – if the boys start to work on the BlackBerry Bold, this IMHO is a clear testament of its success in reaching the masses…
