China has always been somewhat difficult for RIM: as carriers need to invest a significant amount of money in order to be able to offer BlackBerry handsets, no carrier picked them up till 2006.

Mobile Business Briefing now reports the following:

RIMís BlackBerry smartphones were made available to consumers in China for the first time on Friday, after Digital China Holdings Ltd. launched retail sales, notes Dow Jones Newswires. The company will initially offer a model of the BlackBerry Curve phone through 300 retail stores. Digital China will sell the smartphones without a mobile service contract, but the devices will be configured for China Mobile,
